Root Chakra Real Talk: Getting Grounded in a Wobbly World

Feeling scattered or anxious? This guide to the root chakra blends yoga, Ayurveda, and journal prompts to help you feel grounded and supported from within.

Root Chakra Real Talk: Getting Grounded in a Wobbly World

Let’s get one thing out of the way: if you’ve ever felt like your life is one giant game of “everything is chaos,” you’re not alone. That wobbly, anxious, can’t-quite-land feeling? That’s a root chakra situation.

The root chakra—called Muladhara in Sanskrit—is the foundation of the chakra system. It lives at the base of your spine and is all about safety, stability, and being here. Not out in space. Not in your head. Right here, right now. Like, feel your feet on the ground kind of here.

So What’s the Root Chakra All About?

Muladhara governs your most basic needs: food, shelter, safety, community. It’s primal. Survival-based. It’s the part of you that asks:

  • Am I safe?

  • Do I belong?

  • Can I trust life?

When this chakra is balanced, you feel grounded and secure, like you can handle things even when life is chaotic. When it’s out of balance? Hello anxiety, scarcity mindset, and feeling like a houseplant that hasn’t been watered in days.

Why It Matters in Yoga + Ayurveda

In yoga, we ground through the body. Think: Mountain Pose, Child’s Pose, squats. Anything that connects you to the floor and builds steadiness is root chakra gold.

In Ayurveda, we look at the doshas. An out-of-balance root chakra often correlates with excess vata—too much air and ether, not enough earth. This can look like poor digestion, insomnia, forgetfulness, and restlessness. You know, that scattered squirrel energy?

We bring balance through warm foods, routines, oil massage (abhyanga!), and cozy, predictable rhythms. Ayurveda basically wants your nervous system to feel like it’s wrapped in a weighted blanket.

So... How Do You Know if Your Root Chakra Needs Love?

If you’ve been feeling ungrounded, anxious, overwhelmed, or like you’re floating outside your body—you’re probably due for a root chakra reset. But no panic: we work with it gently, through practices that bring us back home to the body.

Journal Prompts to Ground and Reconnect:

  1. Where in my life do I feel most secure and supported?

  2. What does “home” mean to me?

  3. When was the last time I felt truly grounded?

  4. What makes me feel unsafe or unsettled right now?

  5. What can I do today to create a sense of stability?

  6. Who or what helps me feel rooted and present?

Remember, working with chakras isn’t about being perfect. It’s about noticing. So even just sitting down with your journal, a warm mug of something, and your bare feet on the floor? That’s root chakra healing right there.

More soon on the second chakra—because once we’re rooted, we can flow.

Until then: ground, breathe, and take it one inhale at a time.
